Every autumn, as the maples turn, Bracebridge becomes a runner’s town. The Muskoka Marathon, an Athletics Ontario-sanctioned, Boston-qualifying race, takes over a weekend in early October — 5K and 10K on Saturday, the half and full marathon on Sunday — on a flat, certified course that runs along the Muskoka River in peak fall colour, with hydration stations every two and a half kilometres.
It’s built for speed and personal bests, but the weekend is just as much about the atmosphere: a kids’ fun run at Santa’s Village, a live DJ and MC, and a post-race party with live music and beer — come for the run, stay for the weekend. Charity partner Campfire Circle turns every entry into support for children with cancer or serious illness through medically supported camp programs.
Launched in 2020 as a small Covid-era race, it has grown steadily into a two-day autumn fixture, drawing runners chasing qualifying times and families chasing colour. Few marathons pair a personal best with a Muskoka October this neatly.
