Every cottage-country trip goes better with local intelligence, and the Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Information Centre in Bala is where you get it. This is the official welcome desk for the Township of Muskoka Lakes, run by the Chamber of Commerce with help from local volunteers and seasonal staff who actually know the water.

Inside you’ll find the full spread: maps, brochures and guidebooks for attractions across Muskoka, plus the inside scoop you won’t get online — which restaurants are open on a Tuesday, where the farmers market is this week, what the fall colours are doing. The Chamber’s centres in Bala and Port Carling open daily through July and August, when the region is at its busiest, and the year-round Bala office keeps serving visitors through the shoulder seasons. A self-serve kiosk at Windsor Park covers walk-ins from Victoria Day through the fall.

For first-timers especially, it’s worth the stop. Staff can point you toward boat cruises, hiking trails, craft breweries and local events, and they mail information packages to trip planners on request. In a region where half the fun is discovering something just around the bend, starting at the visitor centre means your discoveries are the good kind.
