The Pine Ridge Hiking Club offers an active and welcoming way to discover the forests, rolling countryside, conservation lands, and rural communities of Northumberland County. Led by experienced volunteers, the club organizes guided hikes throughout much of the year, giving participants an opportunity to explore local trails while exercising, meeting new people, and benefiting from the knowledge of hikers who understand the region.
Scheduled outings range from shorter, approachable walks to more demanding hikes of approximately 15 kilometres. Each hike is rated according to its distance, pace, terrain, and expected difficulty, helping participants choose an outing suited to their experience and fitness level. Depending on the route and season, hikers may travel along forest paths, country roads, woodland ridges, or sections of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail.
The club is part of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association and helps care for a 63-kilometre section of the larger trail system. This connection gives members opportunities to enjoy established routes while also supporting the maintenance and protection of trails stretching across southern and central Ontario. Outings may also travel beyond Northumberland County for special challenges, multi-day adventures, and visits to other notable hiking destinations.
Newcomers do not need to join immediately. Prospective members are invited to attend a couple of scheduled hikes, meet a hike leader, and experience the club’s atmosphere before deciding whether membership is right for them. Participants should arrive prepared for the weather and terrain with suitable footwear, water, food, and any recommended equipment.
More than a fitness group, the Pine Ridge Hiking Club is a community built around shared time outdoors. Conversations unfold naturally along the trail, friendships develop across seasons, and familiar landscapes reveal new details with every visit. It is an ideal choice for anyone looking to explore Northumberland County more deeply while enjoying the encouragement and companionship of a knowledgeable hiking group.
