The Rideau Canal, completed in 1832, is a 202-kilometre historic waterway linking Kingston on Lake Ontario to Ottawa, originally built for military defense and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The canal features 45 locks, historic lockstations, and scenic landscapes, and it remains in use for recreational boating, heritage interpretation, and winter ice sports.
