If you’re looking for a peaceful stroll with some of the best views in Lake Superior Provincial Park, you’ve gotta head to the Pinguisibi Trail. "Pinguisibi" is the Ojibwe name for "Sand River," and this path has been a vital travel route for over 2,000 years. This easy-going 6km round trip follows the river’s edge past a series of stunning waterfalls and rapids.
You’ll wander through a mix of northern black spruce and southern hardwoods, which look spectacular against the cascading water. Keep an eye out for local wildlife like moose, herons, or even a bald eagle, and look for wildflowers like Pink Ladyslippers along the forest floor. The path can get a bit rooty and rocky in spots, so sturdy shoes are a good idea if you're planning to go the full distance.
The trailhead is easy to find right off Highway 17 and features a well-marked parking area with a small washroom building and picnic nooks. Just remember to grab your daily vehicle permit before you arrive so you can focus on the sights
