Situated within Fathom Five National Marine Park near Tobermory, Flowerpot Island Lighthouse is one of the most photographed heritage landmarks in Ontario cottage country. The lighthouse sits atop the dramatic limestone cliffs of Flowerpot Island and overlooks the brilliant turquoise waters of Georgian Bay. Accessible only by boat, the lighthouse has become a signature attraction for visitors exploring the Bruce Peninsula and Northern Bruce Peninsula tourism region.
The lighthouse originally guided ships navigating the rugged Georgian Bay waters and remains an important part of the island’s maritime history. Today, volunteers and Parks Canada interpretation staff help preserve the heritage site while sharing stories about Great Lakes navigation, shipwrecks, and the island’s geological significance. Visitors can hike scenic trails connecting the lighthouse with the island’s famous rock pillars, caves, and lookout points. The island’s elevated cliff-top trails provide exceptional panoramic views that attract hikers, photographers, kayakers, and nature lovers from across Ontario.
Flowerpot Island is especially busy during the summer tourism season when tour boats operate regularly from Tobermory’s Little Tub Harbour. The island is also a popular destination for day trips during cottage vacations throughout Bruce County and Grey County. Early mornings and weekday visits typically offer the best experience with fewer crowds and calmer water conditions.
