Canoe Algonquin

Canoe Algonquin is a full-service wilderness outfitter located along Highway 518 East in Kearney, Ontario. While most travelers enter Algonquin Provincial Park through the crowded Highway 60 corridor to the south, Kearney sits on the quiet northwestern fringe of the park in the Almaguin Highlands. This makes Canoe Algonquin the primary staging ground for paddlers seeking solitude on Algonquin’s wilder, less traveled lakes.

Operating in the outdoor outfitting business since 1966, the shop provides everything needed for a backcountry trip. They specialize in lightweight Kevlar canoes—built to make portaging between lakes much easier—as well as kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, camping barrels, tents, and cooking gear. The on-site store also stocks water-resistant maps, fishing tackle, camping snacks, and issues official park and fishing permits.

What makes Canoe Algonquin truly unique to its location is its proximity to three famous western access points: Tim River (Access Point 2), Magnetawan Lake (Access Point 3), and Rain Lake (Access Point 4). Navigating the remote logging roads that lead to these launch sites can be tough on personal vehicles, so Canoe Algonquin offers a dedicated canoe shuttle service. They transport boats directly to the water’s edge, letting visitors focus on paddling rather than logistically complex roof-rack transfers.

From Kearney, paddlers can immediately set off into winding river routes known for moose sightings, glassy headwater lakes, and historic ranger cabins. Canoe Algonquin combines decades of local knowledge with deep roots in the Kearney community, serving as an essential starting point for genuine wilderness exploration.
