Scenic High Falls

Scenic High Falls, also known as Magpie Scenic High Falls, Magpie Falls, or High Falls of the Magpie River, is one of the most impressive waterfall stops in the Wawa area. Located just south of town off Highway 17, the falls are a beautiful and accessible natural attraction for travellers exploring northern Ontario, the Lake Superior route, and Algoma Country. The waterfall drops about 75 feet and stretches roughly 124 feet across, creating a wide and powerful cascade over the Magpie River. Its size, sound, and forested surroundings make it a memorable stop for photographers, families, road trippers, hikers, and nature lovers. The viewing area near the base offers a dramatic look at the falls, while nearby paths allow visitors to explore different angles and enjoy the rugged setting. Access is by a gravel road off Highway 17, leading to a parking area close to the falls. The site includes space to park, interpretive signage, and a simple viewing area, making it easier to visit than many remote northern waterfalls. Conditions can vary by season, so sturdy footwear and cautious footing are recommended, especially after rain or during spring runoff. Scenic High Falls reflects the wild beauty of the Wawa region: rushing water, rocky riverbanks, forest, and northern quiet. Whether someone is stopping during a Lake Superior road trip, visiting Wawa for the day, or looking for a short outdoor adventure, the falls offer a rewarding and memorable glimpse of Algoma’s natural landscape.
