Every town needs a front door, and in Gravenhurst it’s the Chamber of Commerce’s visitor information centre, in the Chamber office downtown on Muskoka Road South. The Chamber has been the town’s official tourism and visitor-services partner since 2012, and its information centre is stocked with maps, brochures and rack cards from attractions across the region — plus staff who can answer questions by phone or email and mail out information packages on request, including for bus tours, conferences and weddings.
What makes Gravenhurst’s setup special is that it doesn’t stay in the office. Under its agreement with the town, the Chamber runs staffed tourism booths at high-traffic events like the Dockside Festival, car shows and the home show, and its “Feet on the Street” program sends summer student ambassadors — in unmistakable “Ask Me” shirts — to the farmers’ market, the main street and the Wharf, ready to point visitors toward whatever they need.
The Chamber also runs the Experience Gravenhurst tourism brand, flying the flag for the “Gateway to Muskoka.” For first-time visitors especially, a stop here turns a guess into a plan — local knowledge, straight from the people whose job is loving this town.
