Callander Bay Beach sits on the shore of Callander Bay at the southeast end of Lake Nipissing, in the heart of Centennial Park at 403 Main Street North. This is the town’s main public swimming spot, a sandy beach with calm, shallow water that is ideal for families with young kids. On a warm summer day the water is inviting, and the wide open view across the bay makes it a lovely place to spend an afternoon even if you never get wet.

The beach is part of a well kept waterfront park. There is a splash pad that runs daily from 10 am to 8 pm through the summer, a big hit with children. The Hector “Hec” Lavigne Memorial Pavilion offers shaded seating and electricity for picnics and gatherings. Washrooms are clean and free parking makes it easy to come and go. There is even a dog friendly area, so the whole family can come along.

Sunsets here are something special. As the sun drops over Lake Nipissing, the sky turns from gold to deep orange to purple, and the calm water mirrors every colour. Photographers and evening strollers love it.

Callander Bay itself is a geological curiosity. It formed about 500 million years ago from an eroded volcanic pipe, one of only eight documented volcanic sites in Ontario. So while the kids are building sandcastles, you are technically swimming in an ancient volcano. The beach is free, open to the public, and an easy stop for anyone travelling the Highway 11 corridor.
