Ahmic Lake Resort is a year-round lakeside getaway set in Ahmic Harbour, within the rugged Almaguin Highlands near Magnetawan, Ontario. Spanning roughly 70 acres with 2,400 feet of natural shoreline, the property carries a unique history that began in the 1930s as an active lumber mill. Remnants of that past—including historic shoreline layouts, a dam, and rushing rapids right on-site—remain part of the resort’s character today.
The location serves as a gateway to more than 40 kilometers of navigable waterways connecting all the way toward Burk’s Falls through the historic, hand-operated wooden locks in Magnetawan. A full-service marina on the grounds features 36 boat slips, boat fuel, and rentals for motorboats, canoes, and kayaks, making the resort a popular base for anglers fishing for walleye, northern pike, and bass.
An unexpected staple on the property is the Swiss Country House Restaurant, recognized across the region for serving authentic European comfort food like schnitzel alongside classic Canadian lodge fare. For lodging, visitors stay in self-catering lakeside cottages equipped with full kitchens and wood-burning fireplaces, or take advantage of the private campground.
Each season brings a distinct northern atmosphere. In the warmer months, guests use the private sandy beach, hike nearby trails, and view the vibrant fall colors. In the winter, the resort connects directly to regional snowmobile trails and offers direct access to the frozen lake for ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Rather than feeling commercialized, Ahmic Lake Resort maintains the quiet, grounded charm of traditional Northern Ontario cottage country.
